Most families serve turkey as the main dish but why is turkey, out of all others, the main dish.?
The first years of Thanksgiving turkey was chosen due to it feeding a lot of people. Turkey was also really cheap at the time.
Turkey has high protein, good for your heart, and can reduce the chances of getting cancer, according to WebMD.
Aside from these good qualities, people also like its taste.
“I think turkey is good because it’s tender,it’s rich, it has flavor, its taste, it’s really good honestly, juicy, and with good skills of cooking you can make it better with spices.” eighth grade Uziel Ponce said.
People like their turkey cooked differently: grilled or roasted, fried or covered in bacon, dry or juicy.
“Pretty good when it’s dry and I think you can season it very well, you can season it a lot better than chicken,” eighth grade English teacher Mr. Vaca said.
But is turkey overrated?
Some people dislike turkey because they can cook it too long and it comes dry.
“Because sometimes people can mess it up and make it way too spicy or put way too much seasoning,” eighth grader Angel Viaran.
“Turkey is okay but I don’t really like turkey as much just because of the stuffing,” eighth grader Allyson said.
The stuffing also can taste bad due to people putting in random stuff and not cooking it properly.
There are other dishes that are more that people prefer than the turkey like mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, ham, tamales, and pozole.
These dishes are better because they are both things for different holidays like Christmas while turkey are mainly eaten on Thanksgiving.
