I-Ready testing happened from Feb 2-4 and Feb 9-11.
The i-Ready test consists of two tests: one reading and one mathematics.
Jesus Alvarado, sixth grader, said he struggled with it, ¨but when I found I can calm myself down and say a couple motivating quotes, I found out I can succeed on getting a good grade.¨
While testing most students feel under stress and pressure and calming down will help reduce stress and will help students focus better on the test. By breathing in slowly and breathing out slowly it would help calm one down, like box breathing.
Nearly everyone interviewed said they struggled with math more than they did with reading.\
Harmony Galindo, eighth grader, said she only struggled with math because ¨math has been difficult these past few years.¨
Samantha Valdez, seventh grader, said English wasn’t as hard as math because, ¨I feel like it’s a subject I go over more because I do more writing than doing math questions.
Not everyone finds math more difficult, some students also find English harder than math.
Ana Sanchez, seventh grader, said he finds math easier than English: ”You learn more in math instead of English.¨
Students might find math easier than English because math is mainly just remembering formulas and such. English always changes text making students not be able to expect what they’ll be learning or answering, which might be a big factor why students think english doesn’t make sense like math..
How does a math teacher feel about this?
Ms. Rachel said that she believes most of her students did well, and she also said, tons of her students did better than last year.
