D.C and Marvel are both big companies of super hero comics. But the big question is which one has the most fans?
D.C comics formed on March first 1943 when a man named Malcolm Wheeler-Nickouson created National Allied Publications, the original name of D.C. D.C stands for Detective Comics.
At first Wheeler-Nickouson did not care for the heroes; he was a man who made the company for profit. In February of 1935, National Allied launched its first publication New Fun: The Big Comic Magazine #1. This was successful enough for them to issue their next comic series in December of the following year: New Comics #1.
D.C first Super hero was Superman known as the first true hero of Detective Comics in 1935 Batman followed after in 1939.
D.C comics are known for their back stories for their heroes. Each hero has their own dark story that leads to suspense or builds up to where they are standing.
Seventh grader Sebastion Gonzalez stated he preferred D.C ¨because they have better heroes, better back stories and I like Batman because his backstory is really true and [I like heroes because] I think it’s really cool how some heroes go from something to nothing.”
Some might say that Batman is the face of D.C. While others might enjoy Superman Batman’s hero rival. And while others do enjoy male heroes some also might enjoy watching the hero Wonder-women another head but for female heroes.
Batman from a young age struggles through many things due to his parents death in an alleyway. Through his struggles some might also say he’s a real hero/vigilantly because Batman has no powers. But through it all Batman became extremely rich though he’s cold he has a kind but smart heart.
Noah Fields stated he also preferred D.C because of the hero Batman: ¨I like D.C because Batman and he’s a real super super hero who unlike …[doesn’t have powers] and that he has lots of money. And I like this stuff because I grew up with cousins who enjoy this stuff.¨
A survey sent out to students with a total of 140 responses showed 17% of them choose D.C as their favorite superhero comics.
As many might enjoy D.C comics there are also many who enjoy Marvel. Out of the 140 responses unlike D.C Marvel gained 44.7% of votes.
Martin Goodman founded Marvel in 1939. In order to raise its charts He also created timely comics to raise Marvel’s popularity. The first comic was published in 1940. Marvel’s first hero was Sub-Mariner in 1939 Torchman following the same year.
Marvel is also a huge hero comic industry where their super heroes are more bright and their backstories aren’t as dark.
P.E teacher Mr.Yamashita stated,¨Marvel! Because it’s the only one I watch and any hero from marvel can beat up D.C in my opinion. And my favorite heroes are Thor,Captain America and Iron Man. Also Marvel Movies are more popular than D.C.´
On charts, Marvel reached first and second place making over a million dollars and a little over a billion dollars. Batman movies also made a billion dollars but ranked third and fourth place.
Fabian Gutierrez, an eighth grade student from Southeast, stated himself that he preferred Marvel because of the memes.
¨I prefer Marvel because of Deadpool because he’s literally not able to die and he can regenerate.¨
Marvel might be more popular because of the Memes some post. Marvel movies are also brighter and aren’t as dark as D.C movies or shows. Movies like Spider-man and Deadpool movies stand out more to teens..
And while both companies are popular in many ways there are also many who don’t enjoy the hero industry, such as an anonymous teacher from Southeast stated she did not enjoy heroes.
¨..It shows ..unreal expectations especially with kids when it shows super heroes are always good so they only focus on their good parts and not that their actual humans it takes away the realism to it.¨
But overall Southeast seems to have more students and teachers who prefer Marvel Over D.C. But which one do you think is better?
Leave in the comments which one you prefer.
