They’re also the mascot of Easter. Many people are usually quite fond of Bunnies, being a quite popular animal to have as a pet as well. A popular animal in general, a lot of people would consider a bunny their favorite animal.
“I love bunnies. They come in so many different colors and if I could have bunnies, I’d have 10 thousand of them. I’d hope everyone loves bunnies. If they don’t I think I would promote them with all my heart,” said seventh grader Arthur Delgado.
There are over 300 different breeds of bunnies, the most common breeds being Netherland dwarf, polish rabbit, mini loop, and the dutch rabbit. They also can have many different colors such as black, blue, lilac, chocolate, white, red, etc.
Most people actually like bunnies, as they are considered one of the top three house pets.
As a house pet, they have specific needs, like they can’t be on certain kinds of floors, they have to have a necessary space for them in a house, certain cages, litter box requirements, etc.
Even though they have many needs, their personalities seem to reflect something different. Bunnies are actually pretty calm animals, most people describe them as having a puppy-like personality.
“I used to have one before it died, it was really calm, super relaxed. They’re super fluffy, I’d recommend them as pets, they don’t cause much trouble,” said eighth grader Dante Rosito.
But some people have fears of bunnies, including Pedro Garcia.
“I just have a fear of getting near them or touching them. My families, weird they like bunnies, every time i’m near ive been scared. The main fear I’ve had is getting my finger bit,” said the eighth grader.
The fear of bunnies is called leporiphobia, an uncommon fear that not many have, usually caused by early childhood trauma from getting bitten. There’s also been a couple movies based on the fear of bunnies, The Night of Lepus (1972), Kottentail (2007), and Bunny the Killer Thing (2015).
HARES VS BUNNIES
Many people think that hares are the same as bunnies. When they’re actually not, from a physical perspective they look visually different. Even as they are different, most people prefer bunnies over hares.
The behaviors between the two animals are also quite different, while bunnies are more social, tending to live together in groups called “warrens”, while hares live usually alone, only grouping together during mating season.
When they’re threatened, hares usually depend on running, camouflaging into their environment. Since they have great speed, they use that to their advantage. But when bunnies feel threatened, they tend to hide.
Hares are much larger than bunnies, their ears also very different. Much longer and have black tips at the end of their ears. Their sizes are also pretty different, they can get up to 28 inches while weighing three to ten pounds. On the other hand bunnies can go up to 19 inches and weigh up to two to five pounds
