For Southeast Middle school State testing started on April 20 for eighth graders since they had to start on their science test. Each week would be dedicated to a subject for testing. First week science, second week ELA, third week math.
Ms. Guzman posted some tips for students for the week of state testing on Schoology: “Get ready, take your time, show your thinking, don’t give up, believe and soar. Focused, prepared, and ready to go – eagle rise and let it show!!”
Teachers and staff are trying to prepare students for their upcoming exams by putting on activities for them. Ms. Gonzalez hosted activities during lunch at the library. She had students write on paper what their goal was for SBAC and then put it on walls for inspiration.
Ms. Mayorga organized a field day for the 6th and 7th graders since the 8th graders only have testing for the first week. She’s organized these field days for the last few days. “Studnets are in their homeroom for a very long time… it’s a good way to keep students off of their screens and spend time with their friends.”
Issac Torres eighth grader DREAMS said he felt annoyed and frustrated with state testing. “We have to do it for 3 whole weeks and I feel like it’s just pointless.”
Denery Magana, eighth grade, also stated that he hates state testing because “it just wastes our time and nobody even tries.”
Most students feel like it is pointless since it doesn’t actually affect your grade at the end of the semester or determine if you passed this school year.
Natalie Moraga DREAMS eighth grader said she felt not so great because state testing takes a really long time and it’s very confusing.
Adam Munoz stated “State testing is terrible because it just ends up messing up the schedule and doesn’t determine your grade.”
State testing has affected normal school schedules so students can have more time to focus on their test. This has become an issue since students aren’t used to the new schedules which can confuse them.
Scores can especially affect eighth grade students since it will determine the classes that they will get next year. For other grades the scores are important because it lets their teacher for next year know what they need to work on to better understand.
Week of testing
On Monday April 20 Science state testing was unfortunately postponed due to a teacher passing away.
Mason Avina DREAMS 7th grader said “it was good that they postponed testing because he thought it was a good way to honor and respect the teachers passing.”
Overall a lot of students thought state testing wasted time and just affects a students well being overall.
