Valentine’s Day: a day where couples or friends spend time together in a special way. Love is in the air and hearts are all around, but people do not speak about money. How do people feel when spending money on this day?
In Southeast, many students do not have a partner, such as Kimberly Diaz, seventh grade student, who wished for a man and stated people do not need to spend money.
Now not everyone wishes for a partner, some even state they would rather not receive money but a sweet gesture made from the heart.
Hailie Diaz, a seventh grader stated “I think it’s cute seeing couples happy and… [what not]. And I wish for a valentine. As for the money I would rather not have anyone spend on me and I would rather have a homemade gift.”
Bella Armenta, an eighth grade student, dislikes Valentine’s due to her talking stage going nowhere and she thinks spending money depends on the person’s love language.
Many people receive love differently. Some people may receive love in gifts with a big price, while others enjoy hugs, holding hands or just physical touch. Some people make gifts as a love language.
Steve Todd, a sixth grade student, stated he hated Valentine’s Day because it is another money spending day and would wish to be alone on Valentine’s day.
“As a dude, it’s kind of your job to buy your girl…a gift,” Todd stated.
Steve claimed boys need to buy the gifts and spend money. He might think this way because worldwide people create movies showing men/boys buying gifts for their parenters, It’s such a common thing that many people stick to that stereotype.
But, another boy named Kenneth Lopez received a gift from his girlfriend.
Now Southeast students in relationships do make extravagant gifts, such as Allison stated what she felt about the money and gifts she plans on spending on.
“My personal feelings about Valentine’s Day is that I really love the holiday like with all the couples especially with the candy and I plan on getting my partner merchandise from Hot Topic and from an animation she enjoys. Money is important because even if it might be much the more money spent the more the gift will be.”
Ash Ramirez, a student also in a relationship and a student who believes that money isn’t all that important.
“It’s a nice day to spend time with the people you love and I got my boyfriend a blanket flower and other things he would like. The I bought him was expensive but it was worth it,” said Ramirez.
Aubree Macias stated it’s just a day about love and buying while also receiving gifts and also started what she got from her partner and her feelings on it.
“I got my partner a basket that was almost over 200 bucks I do regret it a bit and wish I got lower but even so I think he really liked it.”
Many people tend to spend quite a lot on their friend or partner. Would you spend 200 bucks on your partner?
