As the days go by, the end of the school year starts to approach and so does culmination. Most eighth graders at Southeast Middle school started already preparing for culmination, whether it’s for outfit shopping, getting tickets for grad night, or getting their yearbook.

A lot of students have mixed feelings about Culmination, some excited, some nervous and some even scared.

DREAMS eighth grader Daniel Mateo stated that he felt stressed and also confident when it came to culmination day.

DREAMS eighth grader Jeisson Medina said that he felt sad but also thought fun for the few last months left of the school year, “As an 8th grader, culmination will be fun and pretty sad because I will be moving into a different part of my life and discover what’s more to come, what’s sad though, I won’t be able to see some of my friends for a while and overall this past year has been very fun”.

Another DREAMS eighth grader Genesis Morales said that she felt nervous and excited “I feel like it’s really stressful especially when it comes to picking an outfit for culmination day and overall what you’re gonna wear that’s gonna be allowed in the dress code”.

SEMS eighth grader Nathan Urrutia said he felt sad because he would not be able to see his friends since they will be going to another school next year but also stated that he thought it would be fun because it’s the end of the school year.

SEMS eighth grader Shayla said she felt nervous because she’s going to high school next year and it’s going to be a new school for her that she’s not familiar with.

Dress Code
Most students overall said that they felt about picking what to wear for culmination day.

The dress code for this year stated that students should dress formal, business casual, no heels, no revealing dresses, and no denim.

Nicole Torres DREAMS eighth grader said she’s ready because she had her outfit all planned but sad because it’s going to be her last year here.

Alanis Ortega DREAMS eighth grader stated “Well I don’t know exactly what im going to wear for the color and stuff but what I do know is that I want a certain style for my dress which is not too long but not too short so I would want a medium cut length dress”.

Grad Night
As part of eight grade culmination eighth graders had an opportunity to go to knotts berry farm as a culmination activity. There’s 2 options for tickets. The first option included transportation, park admission, and a meal voucher for 140 dollars. The second option only included transportation for students who would like to use their season pass for 85 dollars.

Mr. Medina magnet coordinator in charge of the field trip stated why they made the tickets so expensive, the reason being that mostly renting a bus for that day made it the main cause and also having a meal voucher included with the ticket. He stated it’s a reasonable price because most schools who go only pay around 100 dollars which don’t include stuff that he included this year for the field trip.

In order for students to go they had to have good grades, no school fees and a clean record.

DREAMS 8th grader Julio Vasquez stated that he felt excited for grad night. “I feel excited for grad night since I’m going with my friends and I hope to have a good time”.

Another DREAMS 8th grader Lucio Alvarado stated that he felt excited going to Knott’s since it’s the end of the school year and he’s going on to high school”.

Overall many students felt excited culminating and going to grad night and many looked forward to it.
