The Rose Bowl Half Half Marathon, a 13.1 mile run and a 5k event. Runners run a complete scenic course through the city and landmarks.
The Southeast SRLA team participated in the Rose Bowl race.
Aubrey, a seventh grade student and a first year SRLA runner, explained even if she had felt nervous she also felt excited for committing and completing the half marathon. She joined for friends but ended up liking it and she tried her best.
Students and coaches got on the bus at 4:30 a.m., and the race had started at 7:00 a.m. on Jan.18. Once the race was over, students left around 11:30.
Runners ran past some of Pasadena’s landmarks and finished in the famous Rose Bowl Stadium, making it an unforgettable and exciting moment.
Angel, also a seventh grade student and first year runner, explained that he felt okay, but his legs were sore.
SRLA is not just made out of just students but also teachers, such As Mr. Guerrero, a sixth grade history and English teacher and a first year runner. He stated that he felt good during and after the race.
Mr. Yamishita, PE teacher for Southeast middle and coach to SRLA, stated it was his first time running the race, even though he is a second year runner.
“I’m excited because last year it was postponed by the fires happening and once they set the date, I got sick, so I was really upset. But this year, I’ll rock it.”
Unfortunately, the Rose Bowl half-marathon and 5K were scheduled, originally Jan. 19, 2025 ended up postponed until Apr. 27 on a Sunday due to the wildfires in Southern California. The fires and smoke made it dangerous for runners, people or anything near the area.
Now many people might want to run this in the future and, of course, advice might help.
Mr. Guerrero stated, “practice, practice, practice” was needed for first year runners. And Mr. Yamishita, stated with more detail that students should stretch, eat, and sleep well.
