On Sept 4,Southeast Middle school hosted back to school night starting at 4 p.m. and ending at 6 p.m. Back to school night makes staff and teachers set up to show student’s parents how their class or  the school works. 

What back to school night at Southeast Middle school happens when the front gate opens next to the office and the staff set up a table with a red cloth on the inside of the gate and the staff sitting at the table is handing out flyers to the parents walking in. The first floor or lecture hall though  happened to be a bit of a crowded area, which was  filled with parents asking their children or child what class they had next while gathering up. The second and third floors had a more quiet atmosphere since not many 8th graders wanted their parents to attend.

Mrs. Garnica, one of the 8th grade history teachers from Southeast, explained the art work on her walls which looks like triangles with writing that explained what her students knew about history before she started lessons to get the scopes on what to teach.

Goals for  parents and or students may have things like hoping their kids pass or having a good grade in the class.

Ms. Jones, a Southeast 6th grade teacher, talked about how her goal/or what she hopes for her students was to help them expand students’ learning palettes.

“My goals for my class this year is to expand their…communications skills through student discourse and also to expand their writing abilities,” Ms. Jones said.

Haily, a parent of a Southeast student,  explained how her most important goal for her child to to always have good grades.

“…Besides the report card I can identify what are the needs she might need so I can help her with it,” Haily said in Spanish.

Sebastian Bretado, one of the 7th grade students, explained that he didn’t like the idea of his parents meeting his teachers and them getting to know each other.

“Well it feels kind of bad because I’m not able to keep stuff to myself, or have teachers that I know too but they(parents) know as well…My goal for this school year is to get all As and..not mess up.”said Sebastian Bretado.

So in conclusion Southeast Middle school did well preparing for back to school night and making sure things were going smoothly. Yes It was crowded, but it was fun and next time hope to see more parent student bunches next year.
