The Rodrigues flying fox, also known as the Rodrigues fruit bat, is small and lives on Rodrigues Island in the Indian Ocean. They have a three-foot wingspan and eat mangos, figs, breadfruit, and tamarind pots.
When they fly from tree to tree, they spread pollen and poop out seeds. They hang out in groups of up to 500 bats. A male bat will breed with up to 8 other female bats.
It takes 1 year to make a new bat and when they are born, they have their eyes wide open as if they just saw god. Males have a lifespan of 13 years while females have a lifespan of 16 years. They are the only mammals that can fly. They are endangered because of habitat loss and human encroachment. Only 20,000 Flying Foxes are left in the world.
