The counselors at Southeast Middle School work really hard to keep the students happy, every year in order for students from schools worldwide to show their appreciation they have a counselors appreciation week.
Students made each counselor an appreciation poster. Each grade level volunteered to sign the posters. While they did this, other kids came up with other ways to show their appreciation.
“I plan to show my appreciation by buying [Ms. Sandoval] a card and telling her I’m grateful,” stated Ariel Rulvacaba, an eighth grader.
That was one way students showed their consideration. Students also showed their appreciation by telling them in person with their words.
“I plan to show my appreciation to my counselor by going to her office and saying ‘I appreciate your hard work’, “ said Asher Ramirez.
Schools have counselors because they provide students with help emotionally, academically, and get students college and career ready. Due to this help many students grow up successful in school because the student counselors work with them for three years.
“What I like about being a counselor is I get to connect with students and I get to help them, especially with grades. I like to get to know them while they get to know me,” said Roxana Alvarado, a sixth grade counselor.
The counselors appreciate the students as much as the students appreciate them. This shared appreciation gives the students a stronger bond with the counselors which provides benefits for both student and counselor.
The benefits include students trusting counselors enough to share their experiences in class and outside of school. This gives counselors a better understanding.
“I also like that we get to work with them for three years so that by the time they are 8th graders, I have a good report with them,” said Alvarado.
