On Sept 2, Southeast Middle School enforced the Yondr pouches.

A Yondr pouch is a magnetic pouch that students put their phone in and get to open it up at the end of the day. The goal of the Yondr pouch is to get students to stop using their phone during the day.

If a student breaks the pouch, they have to pay $50. If they don’t and you are in 8th grade you will not get the culmination certificate. 

Before, the students promoted negativity by using apps like Snapchat or their messages to talk bad about people or take pictures of people without their consent and using it in mean ways.

The staff at Southeast Middle School say it has made their job easier. Ms. Young, college/career coach states how they get fewer calls and have only received two calls.

 ¨I feel like over the last several years we have tried… telling students to turn it off, put it away and turn it back on when you leave and yet all day long we were getting calls about students using their phones and doing other things, ¨ Young said.

Some students at Southeast Middle School feel upset because the Yondr pouches prevent them from using their phones. Some others say that in case of an emergency they cannot get their phone. 

¨We need to work on that to find another alternative, but right now we’ll stick to the Yondr pouches¨ Ms. Frias, staff at Southeast Middle School said.

¨I think it’s good because students do use their phones in school which is a really big problem.¨ Uziel Ponce, Southeast Middle School student said.
