On Friday, February 7th, students walked out of campus to protest the deportation of undocumented immigrants in the US. During the walkout, students from several schools went to protest in the streets throughout Los Angeles.
Some schools were Jordan High School, Lakewood High School, Wilson, Millikan, Cabrillo, and Franklin Middle

School and Southeast Middle School.
8th grade DREAMS teacher Mr. Vargas commented, “Yeah, it does affect a lot of my friends, my family and a lot of my students. So, it’s concerning to know that this is something that we have to worry about. I mean, we had to worry about it before… but to this level, to this magnitude, that we have to deal with it now… it’s harder and it makes it more difficult because it is so… I don’t know, it feels wrong. It is wrong.¨
8th grade DREAMS student Jacob Pulido said, “It sucks man, honestly.”
Protesting makes the students voices loud for the government to hear. Some students feel that protests, like this one, are important for this reason, but others only did it to skip school.
8th grade SEMS student Jaden Bandan stated, “I feel like they’re doing, like the people that are walking out, are doing the right thing because it is wrong what [Trump’s administration] doing.”
Donald Trump gave the executive order directing federal apartments and agencies to identify all immigrants within the U.S. This affects our school because Trump, deporting immigrants back to their countries affects the people in South Gate to protest against it.
Yohanis Rodrigo a 7th grader in SEMS stated, “I think [Trump] doesn’t like us”
