Ms. Mc Cord the librarian hosted a book fair from April 8, 2024, through Apr 12, 2024. The book fair happened during both lunches at the library. Some English classes went to the book fair during class as well.
The book fair there had many books, manga, notebooks, games, posters, and other things on sale. Book trailers, available to watch on s-bf.com/ms1 in case you want to see what books the book fair has and what they’re about.

The book fair has many genres of books from thrills to comedy meaning the book fair has something for everyone and their diverse interests. Limitation for every item in the book fair so make sure to head to the library if you want a book or a specific thing.
Cost varies depending on the titles. The price for books starts from $3 each up to $15 each and will have tax. The book fair accepts pay in the form of cash and through eWallet so if you don’t have cash you can always buy using eWallet.
During the Book fair many students were upset with the price of the books. So we decided to asked Ms.Mc Cord why the prices were so high: “The prices were high because the purchases everyone made benefits the school to purchase more books for the students.”
With planning it and completing it it took about maybe 2 weeks, maybe a little over 2 weeks. We typically schedule it at the beginning of the school year. This time around it happened in the spring but sometimes it happens in the fall and so all together the planning could take up to 3 weeks approximately,” she stated.
During our interview with Ms.Mc Cord, the school librarian, we asked why she decided to do a book fair, to which she responded by saying, “I think it was time. We had not had a book fair since before COVID, and students needed to be motivated to read again, to look at the book again, and have an opportunity to purchase them obviously and purchase anything related to the book fair.”
Then we asked if the book fair met her expectations and she said, “Absolutely, actually beyond my expectations. I feel that for only having it a short time, because it had to be cut short, I feel like it was a great success, students were very excited about it, lines were around the side of the building, people were in line just loving and wanting to come in. For open house we had parents, families, kids, and students so it was definitely beyond my expectations, it was a great success.”
We asked if she would ever host the book fair again to which she responded by saying, “Absolutely without a doubt. The student would love it I think.”
“Maybe next year I’m considering maybe having it in the fall. Maybe for back-to-school night, just to compare what it would be like. That way I have both ends of the school year, I already tried spring, ima try out fall and see how it goes.”
Unexpected Events
During the book fair there were many setbacks and unpredictable situations that happened such as a bullet hole found in the library and a gas leak. Here’s insight into Ms. Mc Cord the librarian and Mr. Vargas the English and film teacher.
When asked, what where Ms. Mc Cords’s feelings were on finding the bullet hole in the library, she stated, “Yeah, that was one of the setbacks actually, because there were some classes scheduled to come in that couldn’t come in because of the incident. Scary, scary just to know that they attempted some kind of damage to our school, to our campus, and to our library. Because it’s really one of the best-looking libraries in the district.”
When we asked Mr Vargas the same question he responded with, “ I have many questions, I feel that it is unfortunate that it happened, hopefully, it didn’t happen while we were here because we would have been on lockdown.”
When asked how Ms.Mc Cord felt about the gas leak, she responded, “The gas leak, unfortunately, it’s not the first time it has occurred. So, every time it happens, I’m always worried, I’m considered about the students, I’m concerned about the stuff that comes in here. Because there are always a lot of people in the library, but I think that this time around they were very diligent about bringing the people that can check for gas leaks and making sure that everyone was safe, and that the building was safe. That was reassuring, thai last time was very reassuring.”
When we asked Mr. Vargas the same question he responded, “The librarian called me and told me, ‘Hey you can’t come anymore, because there’s a gas leak and we have to make sure it’s safe for the students.’ There was something that smelled a little funny because I was there when they first started. Ms.Gallegos came down and said, ‘It smells like gas’ and I was like, ‘Oh I don’t know I’m around a lot of kids that have very interesting smells.’ But then when I found out that there was actually a gas leak it explained some of the odors, I actually kind of had a headache.”
When asked how Ms.Mc Cord found out about the gas leaks she stated, “I believe it was Ms. Diaz, who had first mentioned that there was a gas smell on the previous day. And the custodians who had come in the morning to unlock the door, they were the ones to smell it and report it.”
When asked how these events interfered with the book fair Ms. McCord responded by saying, “There were classes that were scheduled to come in but weren´t able to come in because of these events.”
