Mexican Tamales
Let’s start with an incredibly popular recipe from Northern America. Mexican tamales de pollo, a traditional Mexican dish. Made with masa and stuffed with many different things like chicken, beef, cheese, or beans. To make them you will need to soak the corn husks in a bowl of hot water until softened. For the dough, you can buy it at the store and you will need 3 ½ to 4 bags of dough for one batch of tamales. For the filling, you will need shredded chicken mixed with 16 ounces of salsa verde. You will then spread the dough onto the corn huck fill it with the chicken and wrap it by folding in the long side of the husk over the filling then folding in the other long side, overlapping the first (like folding a brochure) then folding the bottom of the husk up you can also tie the tamales with a little piece of corn husk to make it more filling. Then you’re going to steam them for 45 min to 1 hour and 30 min.
Salvadorian Tamales
Another Christmas recipe from Northern America, Salvadorian tamales. For this recipe, we will require many ingredients but let’s go through this step by step. First, we must prepare the banana leaves, you should cut them in half, rinse them in water and soap, and heat them. Cut 2 tomatoes, 1/2 Green Sweet Pepper, 3 Garlic cloves, 7 Cilantro branches, 1 Celery stick, and 1/2 Big onion into small pieces and place them in the water pot with the boneless chicken as it cooks, add salt and seasonings of your choice. Then you can buy the corn masa at the store as your chicken should be shredded once cooked. Lastly, we will place our masa into the banana leaves and spread them out as they’re the base, place the chicken inside, and wrap up your tamales. Cook for over an hour at a hot rate and they’re most probably finished.
Japanese Ganmodoki
Let’s go to Asia, the Japanese have incredible and delicious food like Ganmodoki. Ganmodoki, its other name being tofu patties. First, we need tofu, squeeze the tofu out of any water it may have, next place it inside a bowl that should also contain potato starch, konbu cha, and salt. We will mash them all together, manually or not till it turns into a paste. Next, we will need to either saute or steam the carrots and shiitake mushrooms in a pan. For a minimum of 2 minutes at 400 watts, we will then mash up the carrots, shiitake mushrooms, and tofu with edamame and black sesame seeds. Next spread the mixture into patty paper, spread it evenly, and then cook in a pan with oil. Once both sides turn brown, you’re done and ready to eat.
