SRLA has begun, this is a look into the students who actually run in LA and also the teachers who support them.
SRLA stands for Students (almost pass out running) Run Los Angeles. Even when the runners feel as if they’ll collapse and turn into a little blob of stuff they obviously do this for a reason or else the state of SRLA would be just like the runners, a blob of chaos and disorder.
It takes place in Southeast Middle School which is a part of a community of 100+ public schools. In Southeast, the running began on September 6th after school.
There were about 40 people in the first practice. People ran an intentionally easy route because it was the first day, and Alexander came very late. I was in first place. Alexander is one of the new runners like me. My thoughts on SRLA are all positive. like his replies. I asked, “New runner, are you afraid of running?” he then said “No.” When I asked, “Do you think you’ll endure till the marathon?” He replied, “Mhh… I don’t know.”
A coach obviously has much more different responses, and questions as well, like when I interviewed Ms. Moreno, I first asked, “Do you run into any problems with the runners?” “Everyday [laughs]. But, nothing that’s too challenging, and too much you know? It’s just a part of being a coach! Y’know? And I’m okay with that.”
