This new school year the students no longer have to wear school uniforms, but as a result, the staff had to enforce the dress code. For example, students can’t have their hoodies on, wear open-toed shoes, pajamas, ripped jeans with rips above the knee, etc.
There are many other ways that the school has enforced some rules. However, as of recently they’ve been focused on the phone policy. For instance, all phones will be confiscated and students will not be able to get it back until the end of the school day. Another way the school staff have enforced this rule is by hanging up posters in school hallways, and in classrooms.
7th grader Arturo said that he thinks the rules are strict, but fair. And 8th grader Leon states that he doesn’t like how the rules are being enforced because students aren’t allowed to use phones during “breaks” such as during lunch. 8th grader Santiago C. says that he doesn’t believe the rules are fair because he believes we need a phone break because we are learning all day.
Mr. Rosener believes that the rules are fair for the students because he believes we don’t need phones at school. At first, he didn’t think that the students would follow the rules but the students did. He believes that we need new rules because the rules last year weren’t helping and our test scores were low.
