The schedule will change next year for students at SEMS moving on to 6th, 7th, or 8th. It is going from 8 classes to 6; instead of having 4 classes each day they will have the same 6 classes every day.
Many students feel confused that the schedule would change and many students like the schedule how it is right now.
Jiselle, 7th grader at SEMS, stated ¨It’s pretty good right now… she would be confused if they changed it because ¨I am used to the schedule right now and i like the classes I have right now.¨
Danna, 7th grader at DREAMS , stated ¨ I feel like it is good. I feel like it’s organized … I feel like since they changed it this year also compared to last year it will just get everyone more and more confused.¨
The students right now are on the 2×8 schedule and it will be changed to 1 elective and some students might not even get an elective, they might get an extra math or English class.
Danna added, ¨I would honestly be upset because the electives are one of the funnest part of school and its a class where you can socialize and have fun at the same time.¨
Some staff members like Mr Medina do not want to see the loss of electives. Many students like their electives. The students get an elective where they learn something but it is also fun and they get a grade for it.
Mr Medina, Magnet Coordinator, said, ¨I think the schedule right now works for a lot of students.¨ Mr Medina thinks that the magnet should stay on the block schedule because they would like to continue with the electives that they have right now.
¨I just don’t want to see the lost of the electives because the start and the end of the day is basically the same no matter what, so there is only a certain amount of time used, so I don’t want to see students not have electives.¨
