This event occurred on February 14 during lunch. Leadership and the PSWs organized this event. During the event, students were asked if they were having a good time and if they were eating alone. 6th grader Vanessa Rodriguez answered, “ Yes, I’m happy to be sitting here with my friends.”
Sandy Hook Promise funded Nobody Eats Alone Event. This event helped students connect with each other and make new friends. Sandy Hook Promise is a program started by parents affected by the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting. They fund schools every day trying to make school a better and safer community.
Eating alone can also cause sadness. According to Ms. Martinez, “ Kids eat by themselves everyday and that is a problem everywhere.”
DREAMS 6th grader Oliver Estrada said, “If I ate by myself I guess I would feel alone because I wouldn’t be with anyone I can talk to.” DREAMS 7th grader JoAnn Ross said, “ If I ate by myself during lunch I would probably feel sad because I would have no one to talk to.”
These responses show how important this event was for students. It gave students a chance to meet new people who they have never talked to before.
The purpose of this event is to meet new people and get to know one another. No one should feel as if they don’t

have anyone to talk to. This event will remind students about positive and social connections and remind them that they aren’t alone.
We asked DREAMS 8th Grade Zoey Bedetti, If she was having a good time at the event. Zoey responded, “Yes! I am having a great time because I am with my friends and we are having a blast! and I will be participating for all the events.
SEMS 8th grade Julie Sanaeria said, “Yes I am having a good time because I am sitting with my friends and talking, and I will be participating at the events. “
The activity for the day was bingo. Each student was given a card in which they write their name once on someone they’ve never talked to before and learn something about them by writing their name in the box that applies to them.
