Last year, as of the 7th of October an armed conflict between Israel and Hamas-led Palestinians has raised in the Gaza Strip. This conflict has taken the lives of thousands.
The entire war intensely videographed and captured online since its beginning, taking the internet by storm. Mountains of videos have surfaced posted by the general public, with everyone giving their take on the situation while gaining lots of views.
Many big companies such as Mcdonald’s, Amazon, Starbucks, and Nestle happen to take Israel’s side by handing out resources to their attack force to continue this attack towards Palestine, leading to outrage within these internet communities and the start of one of the most notable boycotts of this century against Starbucks.
The Starbucks boycott movement rules remain quite simple to follow, you just never buy Starbucks. You don’t give them your money so the money doesn’t go towards a war. Starbucks’ stock market has decreased by 12 million dollars ever since this movement and it would probably continue to look this way until the company does something redeeming.
We started by asking students about their opinions on the matter and 195 students answered. Of the 195 students who attended Southeast Middle School responded, and only 23% actively participated in this movement. Another 45% percent do not. The rest of the 32% came from people who weren’t aware of the existence of the boycott.
How do the students of Southeast Middle School feel about the ongoing boycott?
We also interviewed a few students from DREAMS and SEMS to gather some more opinions. Ana M, a SEMS student, told us, “It should continue because everything happening is really bad.¨ However not everyone in this school agrees on the boycott; Santiago C., a DREAMS student, tells us his opinions on this ongoing boycott: ¨I personally think it’s the company and not the locally owned businesses and I think it’s not good for them and also cus like most employees from like fast food places are like teenagers and just trying to make their money.¨ Nathan L., a SEMS student told us his thoughts on the boycott ¨Man, not gonna lie, I like Starbucks. I mean it’s kinda messed, up so I’m not gonna drink [at] Starbucks again.¨
Why or why aren’t the students of Southeast Middle School participating in the boycott?
There’s many different reasons someone may or may not want to boycott let us go over and review some reasons why they may or may not participate in this ongoing boycott. Scarlet A. and Damien G, DREAMS students, told us why they were not participating in the boycott due to their indifference towards it.
However, some people contributed to the boycott of this school. Ashly A., another DREAMS student, says her reasonings for supporting the boycott: ¨ Because you know Starbucks is supporting killing kids.¨
