Starting the year in January we get news of the Ozone layer repairing itself. For the first time since 2018, recent research has shown a recent thickening of the ozone layer. On January 18th, the oldest person in the world died at age 118. French nun Lucile Randon lived through 2 World Wars and the Cold War.
February, was an interesting month as North Korea fired missiles off its coast. North Korea has a history of these tests but tension raised as a result of those tests resulting in even more sanctions to companies with relations with North Korea. In late February President Biden visited Ukraine to discuss critical shipments and increasing sanctions.
Then in Russia on March 17, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest for Vladimir V. Putin and Maria A. Lvova-Belova. In the robotic industry, breakthroughs made in making more biology resembling prosthetic limbs. Studies showed that almost half of people with upper prosthetics ditched them.
In April Congress released unseen footage of the now-called UAPs, (Unidentified Arial Phenomenon) essentially confirming the possibility of extra-terrestrials.
In May New Zealand pledged to dedicate $720 million to help with humanitarian needs and other basics like rebuilding schools and roads.
Several violent incidents broke out throughout Pakistan causing it to be now known as the May 9th riots.
June ended up a crazy month because it was the month when the Titan submarine imploded looking for the sunken Titanic. However, on the other side of the spectrum, actor Harrison Ford returned for, “Indiana Jones, Dial of Destiny.”
In July famous singer Elton John ended his touring career.
However, this month the very popular movies Barbie and Oppenheimer came out in theaters. Barbie made $1.4 billion and Oppenheimer made $953 million at the box office.
In August, something horrible happened: school started. India, though, has become the fourth nation to land on the moon successfully.
In September the Russian foreign minister claimed that the peace deal in April had an agreement made but then abandoned after UK Prime Minister Boris advised Ukrainian President Zelensky to abandon the deal. It’s also said that by 2030, France plans to use no fossil fuels, due to all the harm it has done to the planet.
October, when Israel declared war on Hamas and started airstriking the Gaza Strip. However, Microsoft bought Activision for $69 billion (nice).
Finally, November was the month when doctors successfully completed an eye transplant. Now considered a big moment in history because people can have two functioning eyes.
We also asked about some of your 2023 highlights. When asked Nathan Navarro said that OG Fortnite made his highlight. Christian Urias said, “I think it’s going well so far, I really enjoyed it. It was like, lots of memories”.
We also asked the advanced math teacher and math coach Mr.Dang. “It was a tough year. There was a lot of stuff happening in the world, a lot of wars. Sad things in the world are concerning, especially what’s happening with Palestine. But for me, it was also a hard year overall but I also have the privilege of being able to feel safe and being able to enjoy being around family and friends, working with students. For me personally, it was a good year”
