The original name of Halloween was All Hallows Eve. People celebrate Halloween in so many different ways.
Some celebrate Halloween by dressing up. But they don’t dress up in their regular clothes, they dress up as ghouls, ghosts, goblins, monsters, or anything of their wildest dreams. The most popular costumes of 2023 would be Barbie and Ken. Multiple different versions of Barbie and Ken will be worn, for example, the cowboy version, the skater version, and the beach version of the couple.
People started dressing up because they believed that on October 31st monsters would come out and harm them. So they would dress up to hide from them and keep them out of harm’s way.
People would dress up, they would go out and trick-or-treat around their neighborhood. Trick-or-treating means when people go door to door asking for free candy, then the person who gives the candy either gives them a treat or a trick. People of any age can enjoy this activity.
Did you know that trick-or-treating goes back many many years? It began around 2,000 years ago. Some people believe that trick-or-tricking originates from the Celtic people, who would leave food out for the spirits who roam the Earth to enjoy.
A majority of people who attend Southeast Middle School do enjoy Halloween and go trick-or-treating. Out of 180 students, 77.8% of them enjoy Halloween and 68.9% go trick-or-treating.
7th grader Alejandra I. explained how she enjoys Halloween because she gets to scare people and get free candy. 6th grader Lilah explains that trick-or-treating brings her joy.
