For the past 2 years, we used to take carts up to our class and have breakfast in class but now there are stations where students have to pick up their food in the morning.
How does this change make the students feel? Most of the students we interviewed agreed that the change was unfair and would rather have breakfast in class.
Jayden a 7th grader when asked how he felt about the breakfast change said ¨ I don’t like it. It’s unfair and horrible because you have to go up and eat right there and then you can’t take it to your classroom and well I just don’t think it’s fair, you just have to eat it outdoors and I don’t like to eat outdoors.¨
However he’s not the only student who found this unfair, we also interviewed Angel Gracia on how he felt about the change and he responded with ¨I don’t like it” and when asked if it was fair, he said ¨Nah, before anyone running late would go to class and expect breakfast but now they have to wait outside.¨
7th grader Layla added to this by saying ¨No, it’s not fair because say people are coming late because of any vehicle emergency and then the teacher could just easily put food aside but now there’s like no extra food because everyone in the school is very hungry and there’s no food.¨
The food service workers also had opinions about this change. Ms. Lujan, Cafeteria Manager, said that she didn’t have a say in the change but she does think it’s easier for students and the other workers.
e of the assistant principals also had an opinion on this change. Ms. Galvan stated that they met as a group to discuss the benefits of the breakfast change. She said she likes the breakfast change as it is easier for students upstairs and the students are continuing to eat.
What does this all say about the breakfast change? Simply, most of the students dislike it while the staff loves it. This explains the breakfast change and the student’s and staff’s thoughts on it.
