On November 17 2024, the Students Run LA team ran the 15k race. This 9.3 mile run in which the runners had to complete weeks of training to get to this moment. Most returning runners say that they feel positive about this event, as they have done this before with ease.
Multiple people who are part of this team were interviewed to get their take on training for this moment and for the race as a whole. One of the returning coaches, Mr. Mungia. This year he feels more prepared, confident, and more ready than last year’s 15k.
A new member of the team, Kenny Terrazas, exclaims his confidence with the coming up race. He says that even though he has confidence and knows that he will do well he still has a small sense of fear and nervousness for his first time running this distance.
After the run, 8th grade SEMS student, Julie Sanabria expresses her feelings throughout the race. She felt confident the whole way thanks to her running partner, SEMS physical education teacher, Mr. Yamashita. He helped her throughout this run by providing motivation and company.

First time 8th grade runner, Jamila Villalba runs through how she prepares for races in the morning. She eats a healthier breakfast to prepare such as eating oatmeal. The rest of her morning routine does not differ from her regular routine, besides waking up earlier to get to the Students Run LA teams meeting location.
At the end of this race students received a medal to continue the medal series. These medals represent the students’ hard work and dedication they had to have to complete this. It reminds them of their accomplishments to prepare for the 2025 LA Marathon.
All students interviewed say that they plan to continue training for the Marathon. These students are determined to complete their SRLA journey and show their progress as runners by meeting their goal for 2025.
