During the Month of March an opportunity arose for young stars to show their talent in College. Here at Southeast they also host this tournament known as March Madness that starts March 18 and ends in early April.
The professional tournament can make or break a collegiate athlete’s career. Here At Southeast Middle School it’s just for fun. 8th grader Josue Alvarado a decided to join the tournament because ”it just seemed like fun.”
A lot of professional athletes pick their team based on what offers they have and who they believe is the best from their offers. At Southeast, players like Jeremy Borjas pick their team names based on personal preferences: “ I’m on the Duke blue devils, because I thought they were the best team.”
Here at Southeast the goal is to be confident, so we asked 8th grader Abel Carrales about how confident he is in winning the entire tournament and he said,” 100%, cause we have 2 wins and no losses.”
Why was this tournament introduced to Southeast? Here at Southeast Mr. Munguia gave us his insight on why this tournament is played here at Southeast saying, “It’s relevant to what’s going on right now, we actually have the tournament going on with college basketball so it’d be good for the kids to get acquainted to it and so the kids can have a nice little tournament to be apart of.”
The tournament is currently in the finals, the two teams in it are Connecticut and Auburn. With a total of 18 teams in the tournament 16 teams have been eliminated. They are hosting a third place bracket the two teams in it are UCLA and Oregon.
