Happy 39th National Winnie The Pooh Day! This national holiday takes place on January 18th because of the show’s author, A.A. Milne’s birthday. This commemorates his joyful show of a happy yellow bear and his friends (National Day Calendar). To show some love for our cartoon friend, we decided to enjoy this holiday with fellow Pooh-Bear lovers.
Did you know a black bear named Winnie inspired A.A. Milne to create the character Winnie The Pooh? Christopher Robin, the author’s son, named his teddy bear after Winnie and a swan named Pooh. (National Day Calendar) And that since 1986 Winnie The Pooh Day has celebrated for 39 years? The show Winnie The Pooh has existed for almost 100 years starting in 1924 and Tigger being the latest character to be made (Alachua County Library District).
We interviewed Southeast Middle School students including Nathalie Garcia 8th grade DREAMS student, Micheal Gonzalez 6th grade SEMS, and Jacobo Fariac 7th grade DREAMS.
Nathalie Garcia said “I first watched the show when my mom showed it to me and I still watch the show because it’s a great show and I love it.”
Micheal Gonzalez said ”My favorite character is Winnie the Pooh. He’s my favorite character because he’s very lazy but also funny.” As other students enjoy watching Winnie the Pooh there are students who have not watched the show, like Jacob Farias who said he has never fully seen the show, and doesn’t know much about Winnie The Pooh.
