A special day occurs during the month of May, MAYbe you’ve heard of it. The day connects to the Star Wars franchise and commonly known by the phrase, “May the fourth be with you” or “Revenge of the Fifth.” It celebrates Star Wars fans all around the world, unifying them as one to talk about a common interest.
In total, Star Wars has twelve movies. And it doesn’t end there, they’ve also created comics and books based on this growing fandom. Overall, the Star Wars franchise has loyal fans and members who eagerly await new canon pieces that have kept the fandom going.
Based on the interviewees’ answers, a few people stated that they don’t normally celebrate Star Wars day, mainly because they forget about it. Meanwhile, others do and respect it by doing certain things, such as Armando Rosales, Julian Ramos, and Ms. Diaz.
A SEMS sixth grader named Armando Rosales said, “Yes, I watch a movie or show about it.”

Julian Ramos, a sixth grade SEMS student responded, “Yeah, I put on my best star wars fit.”
8th grade art teacher Ms. Diaz said, “I did this year, I wore a Darth Vader sweatshirt.”
Whether people celebrate Star Wars day or not, it doesn’t mean they can’t enjoy the classic films and literature. This day connects the fans of Star Wars, either by simply watching one of their movies or going all out and cosplaying a character.
Furthermore, of the twelve movies and many shows, the interviewees named titles such as “The Revenge of the Sith” by 2 students, “A New Hope”, and “Andor.” Additionally, characters like Anakin Skywaler, Chewbacca, Ashoka, Darth Vader, and Ewoks exist as the interviewees favorite characters.
When asked how long they’ve considered themselves fans, seventh grade DREAMS student Sergio Sanchez answered, “Three years,” and Armando Rosales said, “Two years.”
Sixth graders Diamonie Jada of DREAMS and Julian Ramos responded similarly, one said “A couple months,” while the other said “About two weeks.”
Finally, Ms. Diaz has belonged to the fandom for the longest. She responded with, “I got into the Star Wars franchise when Episode 1 came out and now I’ve watched all of them.” For your information, the movie released in 1999, she’s been a Star Wars fan for 26 years!
Furthermore, May the Fourth or Star Wars Day, has become a well known celebration beginning in 1979 that involves unique traditions and events. Even amusement parks such as Disney Land have acknowledged this growing event and made money off of it. The franchise has created an environment of devoted and passionate admirers, supporting Star Wars indefinitely.
