Spirit week has officially arrived at Southeast Middle School to boost awareness of Hispanic heritage. It lasted Sep. 23-27, 2024.
We interviewed DREAMS and SEMS leadership students on campus and got their opinion on why they think it’s important to spread awareness on Hispanic Heritage Month.
“It’s important to spread awareness to support people who are Hispanic and for them to get recognized.” 8th grade SEMS leadership student, Gianella Saavedra states her opinion on why she thinks it’s important to spread awareness on Hispanic heritage month.
“As a Latin American myself,” 8th grade DREAMS leadership student Samantha Gonzalez starts, “It’s important… [for students to] express themselves in their culture and for people to learn more about Latin culture since it is very important to know about our culture.”

One of the most popular days during spirit week was definitely jersey day according to Marquis J, Kenny T, Cindy, and Miriam M since it was all their favorite day. It was also the most popular clothing worn by students and staff members. Almost all of the students who we interviewed said their favorite clothing they brought during spirit week except for Zoey b whose favorite clothing she brought for spirit week was her Mexican flag socks.
