On Jan. 31st, students had the chance to attend the musical play Wicked, at the Hollywood Pantages Theater. The duration of Wicked takes around two hours and forty minutes, starring Kara Lindsay, Jackie Burns, and Jason Graae.
The musical is told from the perspective of the witches named Elphaba and Glinda before and after the arrival of Dorothy in Oz and first performed June 10, 2003.
Since the play has become so popular, a movie adaptation of the musical was created. The movie Wicked was released in Nov. 22, 2024 across the USA with actors Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
The Play
Both students, ranging from the grades sixth to eighth, along with teachers, attended the Wicked field trip. We asked Teacher Ray, Bailey Lawrence Lambert, Ethan Rojas, and Camila Sambrano what they thought of the musical.
All of our interviewees said that their favorite character was Elphaba and that they’ve watched a musical before watching Wicked.
Over all, they responded that they really enjoyed watching Wicked which was then followed by the question, “What was your favorite part of the musical?”
Teacher Ray, who teaches seventh grade, said, “I really liked the set and the effects that were used. Like with the fog machine since they had a really intense smoke machine that would cover all the people on the floor.”
We asked two sixth graders, starting off with Ethan Rojas who said, “I liked the part where Elphaba melted behind the curtain.”
The second sixth grader, Bailey Lawrence-Lambert, said, “I liked the part where they sang Popular.”
Lastly, an eighth grader named Camila Sambrano answered, “All of it!”
