Earth Day is a holiday celebrated on April 22 every year honoring Earth. Earth Day isn’t just a holiday celebrated by the United States but worldwide throughout the country. Earth Day was originally started on April 22, 1970, by former senator Gaylord Nelson who enforced this holiday onto the national agenda. Earth Day became a national day to show awareness of keeping our environments clean and safe. On Earth Day many people go out along with friends and family to plant trees and clean areas such as parks, beaches, etc. In some areas, communities help organize rallies and picnics to help the cause. Now we can discuss what our fellow Southeast students do to help our community.
During this period we found students to participate in our interviews and put their input on Earthday. We asked 8th-grade students, Lizbeth and Jasmine, “What are some things you already do to help the earth?”They responded saying “We like to go outside and pick up trash from the floor.” Even picking up at least one piece of trash from the floor makes a difference. Later, we interviewed Casey and Aileen 8th-grade DREAMS students, and asked “What would be your message to others so they can help?” they responded by saying “If you don’t clean we are going to have an unhealthy environment which is bad.
The word can be spread to other people to get them to start helping the environment.
We were later informed about a project created by Ms. Lacey’s environmental science class. A new recycling program where students go around and collect empty water bottles and strapped paper to help create them into new ones. We interviewed students in this program about how they are doing so far. We asked 8th grader Robinson “Why did you decide to start this project at the school” with a response “I decided to start this project with my friends so we can start making the school cleaner and because a lot of recycling products aren’t used after there empty.” Then we interviewed our other student 8th grader Gamaliel asking him “How’s your progress been so far?” he responded by telling us “Really good, we have started in many classrooms and have gotten many materials from teachers.”By the states given to bus we think this is coming to a very great start.
